The first real preview of Windows 9 ‘Threshold’ was expected on September 30th, to coincide with a Microsoft special event. However, ‘Paul Thurrot’s Super Site for Windows’ is suggesting that it won’t actually be out until October.

We have already seen lots of leaked information about the next version of Windows. The start menu is coming back, which will make a lot of people happy. This time it’s customizable, allowing for color changes and resizing. The Windows 8 touch-friendly start screen is still available as an alternative.

Windows 9 will also get multiple desktops, like OS X, and a notification center.

Microsoft’s September 30th event is aimed at ‘enterprise’, so may not be of much interest to most users. It’s likely they’ll address ‘consumers’ at a later event. Most commentators expect Windows 9 to be officially released in Spring 2015.
