Apple’s new smartwatch, the Apple Watch, comes with health and fitness apps designed to help you live a healthier life.

Fitness and Workout measure your activity during the day, and set goals for specific activities like cycling or running. It might encourage you to get out of your seat at work for a minute every hour, for example. The apps are all tightly integrated with iPhone apps.

During the presentation, Apple confirmed, unsurprisingly, that developers can adapt their own apps for the Apple Watch. We saw Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest to name a few. All will be customizable, and you’ll be able to choose for what reason apps notify you.

Notifications can also be contextual – the maps app will give you different haptic (in Apple’s word, ‘taptic’) signals through the watch for turning left or right, for example. We can expect to see lots of creative uses of these physical notifications.
