Adobe shocked everyone when it introduced its subscription-only Creative Cloud, getting rid of the beloved Creative Suite. Moving to the cloud meant that Adobe would be switching its business model from selling perpetual licenses to selling subscriptions. While the cost of entry for Creative Cloud is much lower than purchasing a package of apps in the Creative Suite, users will be paying more in the long run if they don’t care about updating to the latest suite of apps every year.
Adobe has heard user feedback about its Creative Cloud and has decided to release a bundled subscription for Lightroom and Photoshop for a low $10 per month. This makes sense as many photographers rely on both tools, which they couldn’t get bundled together before this announcement. Lightroom is the only Adobe program that still sells with a perpetual license.
While $10 is a great price, there are some catches. You can only get the deal if you sign up by December 31st, 2013 and you have to have bought Photoshop CS3 or later to be eligible.
The Creative Cloud subscription model isn’t going away any time soon so it’s nice to see that Adobe is listening and adapting to user feedback about its products and services.
