We know that voice calls are coming to WhatsApp this year, and screenshots from its translation tool have now appeared showing the Call tab on the interface.

Similar screenshots for the iOS app appeared a few weeks ago, and now we can see the Android version. The new interface is divided into three tabs: Calls, Chats and Contacts. This means WhatsApp will have caught up with competitor apps like Viber and LINE.WhatsApp Voice Calls

When you are in a call, your display will say WhatsApp Call, so you don’t confuse them with normal calls via your network. Calls will be possible via WiFi or your 3G/4G network.

While voice calls in WhatsApp are getting closer, last week Facebook surprised us by bringing voice calls to its Messenger Android app. This makes Messenger another apparent competitor for WhatsApp, which is of course now owned by Facebook. It would seem sensible if one product is phased out, or combined with the other, eventually.
