Historically, Microsoft has been pretty good about getting its productivity suite to schools for free or for cheap. However, your school had to sign up for the program, taking control out of your hands. That changes today, as Microsoft is allowing students to sign up for the service on their own without schools setting up accounts for students first.
To see if you’re eligible for free Office 365 for Students, head over to www.office.com/getoffice365 and enter a valid school email address. If you do qualify, you’ll get the latest versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, Access, and Publisher for free. You’re also allowed to install the productivity suite on up to five devices including PCs, Macs, Windows tablets and iPads. Students will also get 1TB of OneDrive storage space, which will be more than enough for your school projects and media files.
Your school still needs to purchase Office for students and teachers but now you can check if you’re eligible by yourself. The offer is only available in the USA for now but Microsoft promises to bring it worldwide “later this year.”
