Google is combining its Google Play Music service with YouTube with an all new subscription called Music Key. The service will get you all-you-can-eat music videos and songs, offline playback, and background listening.
Millions of people go to YouTube to listening to music and Google knows this. That’s why Music Key will bring the best parts about streaming music services to the video site. Music Key will allow users to listen to mixes so you can have your very own music TV channel, ad-free. However, ads will still show up for non-music YouTube videos.
Music Key’s subcription will also give you access to Google’s entire Play Music library, which is compatible to Spotify’s. Music Key keeps track of your listening habits on Google Play Music and will suggest mixes and videos on YouTube. You’re basically getting two music services for the price of one and Music Key offers a compelling alternative to Spotify.
Starting today, there’s a new Music section on the YouTube.com website and the mobile apps on Android and iOS. It’s a great way to discover what music is trending.
Music Key has a promotional price of $8 per month but will be $10 per month normally. The service is in beta and you can only be invited to participate. You can sign up to join in Music Key here.
