The latest YouTube for Android update is rolling out now, bringing a completely revamped interface and a watch-while-browsing feature. Version 5.0 is a dramatic update to the YouTube for Android app, bringing the same design elements of more recently updated Android apps like Google Play Music and Google+. Google’s iconic “card” style UI has been integrated into YouTube for Android and features the same left column sidebar other Google apps have.
In addition to the new interface, YouTube 5.0 features a new feature that lets you watch a video while you browse. While not as powerful as having picture-in-picture, watching while you browse can make the browsing experience on a small screen much more powerful. You can swipe right on a video thumbnail to dismiss the video or drag it up to expand the video to full screen.
The updated YouTube for Android should be rolling out to you soon. Google is doing a staged roll out so it may be a few days before you get your update.
