A new report from The Verge reveals Microsoft is tentatively planning to reveal Windows 9 on September 30th. Code named “Threshold,” Windows 9 will focus on improving features for desktop users with a redesigned Start Menu and modified Charms Bar.
The report also reveals Microsoft will likely ship Windows 9 to developers on the same day or shortly afterward. This news follows a report from ZDNet that says Microsoft is expected to release Windows 9 late September.
I reached out to Microsoft for comment about the event and received the following response:
“Thanks again for your phone call. I have connected with my colleagues, and we have nothing to share about Windows 9 at this time. I apologize for any inconvenience here.”
From what I’ve seen, Microsoft is about ready to launch Windows 9 with minor usability updates even though the company remains tight-lipped about it. The company now wants to ship Windows updates more frequently instead of waiting to package a bunch of incremental updates in a major release.
