Pipe brings file sharing to Facebook

Would you like to share files with your friends on Facebook? Pipe is a Facebook app that lets you do just that, with any type of file up to 1GB.

Pipe has a simple drag-and-drop interface that looks like a big Mario-style pipe. You choose a friend, then drag and drop your file into the pipe. The file is then uploaded, and stored securely in a locker for your friend if they are not online. If your friend does not have the Pipe app in Facebook, they will receive an invite with the file transfer notification.

Pipe works by creating a direct peer-to-peer connection between you and your friend’s computers when you’re both online, or uses the locker if not. The locker only holds files up to 100mb, so you can only send bigger files when you are both online.

Pipe is still quite a basic service, and while it is very simple, it lacks the great cloud storage features of DropBox, SkyDrive or Google Drive.

You can try Pipe with your Facebook account by clicking here.
