Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, called The Golden Age of Pirates. It puts the game in historical context, and explains how piracy took hold in the Caribbean. It promises to tell the real, unvarnished truth about the lives and adventures of pirates like Calico Jack and Blackbeard.

Although Assassin’s creed always takes certain liberties with historical fact, there’s no denying that few games have brought the past to life so well. It will be interesting to see if Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag really does show the warts and all truth about the golden age of piracy. The trailer doesn’t reveal any more gameplay or plot details

As well as the new trailer, Ubisoft published a great infographic about Pirates, which explains more about the lives and environment they lived in. It includes some gruesome details, like the amount of compensation a pirate would earn for the loss of limbs!
