Microsoft is doubling down on development of Windows. This weekend, the company’s next version of Windows, Windows Blue, leaked out onto the internet. Now Engadget reports that current Windows 8 and Windows RT users will soon see updates to the Mail, Calendar, and People apps.
The biggest change that these core applications will get come in the form of performance enhancements. Navigating and loading each of these apps should prove to be a snappier experience, although we haven’t gotten a chance to test them out since they haven’t been released.
Mail will also see a much needed feature, which is the ability to create folders from within the application. Users will also get the ability to rename and delete folders. While this isn’t as intuitive or useful as Gmail’s labels, folders will still work with Google’s email service. Another addition to Mail will be the ability to flag mail or mark them as spam.
The Calendar app will get a minor facelift and a more useful work week view. Other additional features included in this update are the ability to check if someone’s available, forward invites, and the ability to create recurring events.
People gets the most minor update, which is the ability to sort your feed by social network. A representative from Microsoft told Engadget that the updates won’t be available until tonight or tomorrow. Once they’re live, you will get a notification in your Windows Store app to update.
