A supposed “leaked” version of Grand Theft Auto V has been making its rounds on torrent sites, masquerading as an legit version of the popular game. Gamers who downloaded the 18GB torrent were greeted to a legitimate looking installer, which asks for a product key that’s supposedly located in a text file of the bundle. Unfortunately, the game is a cleverly disguised package of malware that infects your PC.
If you perform a Google search for “GTA V PC Torrent,” you’ll be see tons of hits for the same malicious torrent. The authentic looking package has duped thousands of eager GTA fans into installing malware. This isn’t the first time this type of torrent has been spotted. Fake builds of GTA V have been circulating since early September and it doesn’t seem like they’re going away any time soon.
Rockstar has yet to release any information about a PC version of its blockbuster game. There have been petitions to bring the game to the PC (and one to stop it) but there are no announced plans yet. Grand Theft Auto V is currently only available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
