google drive for android updateGoogle Drive for Android is getting a major update today with a new layout and document scanner. At the top of the app you’ll notice a new button to switch to the “card” view. This basically displays your folders and files as cards, making them easier to distinguish visually, instead of relying on reading the document names. Documents will show up as large thumbnails, giving you a sneak peek into what’s inside. There’s now also an option to download documents from Drive to keep locally on your Android device.

Another big addition in this update to Drive for Android is the inclusion of a document scanner that utilizes Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to make scanned text searchable. To access the new document scanner, simply hit the menu button (three dots), tap on “Add new,” and select “Scan.”

Additionally, there are improvements to editing documents like font adjustments (size and type) as well as editing cell text colors. While web users could do this for a while, it’s the first time the mobile version of Drive is getting this feature.
