Until 20th September 2011, you can download the original Portal game free through Steam. This offer is part of Valve’s ‘Learn With Portals”. According to the site, Portal ‘makes physics, math, logic, spatial reasoning, probability, and problem-solving interesting, cool, and fun.’
It’s hard to disagree with that, and even if you’re not a kid who needs inspiring, Portal is an essential video game, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone. It’s suitable for all ages, and is one of the few first-person-perspective games that doesn’t involve players shooting at aliens or people!
If you want to convince someone that video games are not dumb, or that they have artistic value, you can’t really do any better than Portal. It’s playable on Mac and PC, so there’s no excuse. Sign up to Steam and get downloading now!
