Facebook is testing a new feature – allowing you to schedule the deletion of posts. There is a reference to the feature on a Facebook help page.

A screenshot published by Jen Flitter on Twitter shows us how it works. You’ll be able to choose how long your Facebook post lasts, from one hour up to seven days.

Facebook has confirmed that it’s running a test of this feature, but said nothing about how long it would continue, or the likelihood of it being rolled out to everyone. The social network regularly tests new features like this, getting user feedback to see whether an idea might be popular or not.

Since the rise of Snapchat, and the recent release of Facebook’s own Slingshot, more and more people have got interested in ‘ephemeral’ messages that don’t exist forever. Posts scheduled for deletion won’t immediately be deleted from Facebook’s servers, and it could take up to 90 days for your message to completely disappear.
