If you use the BBC’s iPlayer app for Android, there’s a great new feature. You can now download shows to watch later offline. You can download programs at home on WIFI, and then watch them at your leisure – they cannot be downloaded over 3G or 4G networks, which is good news for your data plan.
Your downloaded programs can be kept for up to 30 days, or expire seven days after your first viewing. This is in line with the desktop version of iPlayer. You can download programs in High or Standard quality. This brings the app in line with the iOS versions too.
The BBC iPlayer supports downloads on Android 4.0 and 4.1 to 4.3. According to the corporation, 70% of existing iPlayer users on Android will be able to download shows, and it is working to get allow more devices to be compatible.
This feature is not available outside the UK.
