Swype, the impressive keyboard for Android has finally left Beta after three years, and is now available in the Google Play store. When it first appeared, Swype’s finger sliding typing was a revolution. Since then, it has inspired many competitors like SwiftKey, SlideIT and Android itself from version 4.2.

Is Swype still worth a download, now it’s not such a revelation? It may not be new any more, but the app still has some features that make it a good keyboard alternative. Swype adapts well to tablets, has a great prediction system and supports 60 languages plus 20 dialects with its Living Language support. The press release notes how in Australia, for example, Swype ‘automatically loads local words like lollies (candy), arvo (afternoon), and brekky (breakfast).’

You can test the 30-day trial version of Swype, or buy the full version from Google Play. The last beta version of Swype, 1.4.9, expires on September 14 2013. The beta testing program is still open, and there are instructions on how to join here.
