youtube windows phone iconThe YouTube app for Windows Phone is getting a major overhaul today. Previously, the app only worked as a shortcut to the mobile YouTube interface but that changes today. The app has been completely redesigned to support playlists, subscriptions, and sign-in.

The app finally brings a complete YouTube experience to Windows Phone users with the ability to view playlists, video history, channels, and subscriptions. Users will also be able to pin them to the Windows Phone 8 Start Screen as a Live Tile.

For the parents out there, the YouTube app features Windows Phone 8’s “Kid’s Corner” feature to limit the types of videos your kids are able to access. This feature will work in conjunction with YouTube’s Safety Mode settings.

While today’s YouTube update is only for Windows Phone 8, Microsoft has promised that an update is coming for Windows Phone 7.5 “in a few weeks.”
