Windows 9, codenamed ‘Threshold‘, is expected to be presented as a Technical Preview on September 30th. It seems likely that it’ll introduce single click updates to the operating system.
This feature exists in internal releases of the Windows 9 Technical Preview, so it’s not guaranteed to be in the public release or final version of the operating system. Single click updates, however, are a ‘fully developed’ feature already, so it seems likely. This would mean that for minor updates at least, you wouldn’t be required to go through a complete re-installation process, making them quite painless and unobtrusive.
Making updates as easy and unnoticeable as possible will help Microsoft make Windows as secure as possible. The company currently has a monthly update schedule, and easy updates will mean more Windows users actually apply them.
