Widget Summit 2007 is taking place on October 15-16 in Mission Bay, California. One of the increasing events relating to widgets, it will give the chance for developers to meet, talk about the widget economy, “evaluate possible distribution channels” and “explore areas of rapid growth and experimentation”. While the use of widgets is spreading, both on desktops and websites, the real issue is finding a way to properly monetize them. Developers and widget distributors like Musestorm are still looking at how to best promote and sell widgets to the public and companies. Some exciting sessions in the two day schedule include Facebook development, widgets on mobile, iPhone widget development and designing for social networks. No longer restricted to Yahoo! Widget Engine or Apple’s Dashboard, widgets are rapidly spreading to all devices and different types of users. Check out more information on the whole event here.
