Version 2.9.4991 of WhatsApp for Android has been released with the usual performance improvements. To install it, you have to point your browser to the WhatsApp site, and click install (it’s not in the Google Play store yet).

With Samsung handsets, you also get split-screen multi-window support. With this, you can divide your screen in half, with WhatsApp visible in one, and another app in the other. This is a great idea for those larger screened Android devices, as it allows you to be ‘more productive’ by doing two things at the same time, bringing mobile computing that bit closer to desktop Windows.

The original list of apps with multi-window support was quite small. The Google suite of apps support it (Chrome, Gmail, Maps, Talk and YouTube), and now WhatsApp can be added to the list of third party apps like Facebook and Twitter that also allow the multi-window view.
