The latest update to WhatsApp on iOS has a problem running in iOS 8. While the app is compatible with the latest verion of iOS, chat backups to iCloud are no longer possible.
If you install iOS 8, which most iOS users will be able to do today, you may not be able to backup your chat history. This applies to WhatsApp version 2.11.11, and it’s currently unclear if earlier versions are also affected. Dropbox has also reported that its backup feature is broken in iOS 8, so it may be a change in the operating system that is causing these problems.
This problem has been seen using the ‘Gold Master’ release of iOS 8. In theory, it’s a version that’s ready for the public, but there’s still the possibility of small changes in the official release later today. Alternatively, Apple might fix this later, as there are other features of iOS 8 that will be missing at launch.
