EA and developer DICE have shown the first gameplay footage of Battlefield 4. You can watch the whole video here.

It’s a mission called ‘Fishing in Baku‘, set in Azerbaijan. It shows of the impressive new game engine, Frostbite 3, which as you will see makes Battlefield 4 look absolutely stunning.

Battlefield 3 was a great game, but its single player campaign was heavily influenced by the corridor levels of Call of Duty, and not nearly as fun as the open and dynamic multiplayer modes. DICE promises that Battlefield 4 will be different, with much broader spaces in the single player game, allowing for more tactical play, and a feel much closer to Battlefield’s excellent multiplayer experience.

The environments in Battlefield 4 look great. As well as Frostbite’s famous destruction, there’s impressive detail, real time weather changes and day/night cycles.

There were no details about multiplayer, however, but you can be sure it will be a huge part of Battlefield 4 when it comes out later this year.

You can also guarantee a PC release for Battlefield 4, but DICE did not announce which consoles the game will be available for. The gameplay video looks far beyond what current generation consoles can manage, but as with this year’s Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 4?), it would be a surprise if those platforms were ignored.
