gmail iconThe Gmail for Android app received a small bump from 4.2.2 to 4.3 today. The only thing that has changed is that users can now archive/delete and reply to single emails from the notification drawer.

One of the nicest features that Google introduced in Android 4.2 was the ability to interact with specific notifications in the notification drawer.  Music apps have the ability to expand with bigger artwork and playback buttons. Today, Gmail gets more useful interactive notifications. Users can now archive/delete and reply to single emails in the notification drawer. Getting the ability to archive or delete will depend on how you set up your Gmail app.

Previously, Android users only had the ability to expand an email to see part of the body of the an email. If you have multiple unread emails, users could see an unread count. This leads to one of the biggest issues with email notifications in Android; the reply and archive/delete feature only works if you have one unread message. If you have multiple unread messages, the notification drawer will only give an unread count.

Still, the new notification actions are useful for those who don’t get as many emails and want to act on messages as quickly as possible. You can get the latest version of Gmail for Android here or from the Google Play Store.
