Two weeks ago, Facebook rolled out a redesigned Messenger app for a few lucky Android and iOS users. Today, they’re rolling out the updated app to everyone else. The updated Facebook Messenger app features a complete redesign to look more like iOS 7 and Android 4.4 KitKat.
In addition to releasing the redesigned Messenger app to everyone, Facebook has also updated the app to add functionality. The entire menu system has been redesigned to make it easier to navigate and now you can clearly see which contacts are available to chat.
Unfortunately, the SMS feature has been removed since Facebook found that not many users activated the feature. In its place, Facebook asks you to input your phone number so that it can match users who are on Facebook, but who you haven’t friended. This allows you to send a contact a message on Facebook without first having to friend them.
