Twitter Tony Hawk video player demoThere’s no escaping video ads. Twitter announced a beta test of its upcoming “Promoted Video” ads today. Soon you’ll be seeing brands promote films and other products using video.

Twitter showed an example of a Promoted Video in a user’s feed. The trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey is displayed underneath a tweet with a blue play button. Tap on it and the video will start playing. The good news is that the video won’t automatically play when you’re scrolling through your feed.

The company is also using this technology for its embedded video. Non-advertising videos will get a new player that shows options to reply, retweet and favorite. Twitter hopes giving users more video will make it “richer and more engaging.”
