Twitter has updated its apps across iOS, Android and Mac. The most important improvement is the synchronization of direct messages in all apps. Until today, every time you opened Twitter in on a different platform, read direct messages would appear as unread. Now read messages will appear as read in all apps.

The synchronization works on twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for Mac, Twitter for Android and iOS, and Tweetdeck. Conversations have also been improved, with a new reply composer, and a new way to find interesting accounts and people to follow with a ‘new people’ button. Another significant development is the ability to report unwanted Tweets with the ‘more’ button. Search results are now richer, with account biographies, while the Mac app has has Growl notifications fixed.

The direct message bug has been long standing, so it’s good news Twitter has finally dealt with it.
