Twitter is testing a major redesign of its interface, which could mean the death of the social network’s vertical timeline. Mashable features editor Matt Petronzio noticed his Twitter account featured a completely redesigned interface, which means the company is testing the radical new look. Gone is the timeline that we’re all familiar with, replaced by a Facebook-like profile page.

While Twitter already supports custom header images, the header has been given more visual focus like Facebook’s Cover Photos. A larger profile picture has been put to the top left, exactly where Facebook features its users’ profile pictures.

But the most striking difference is the absence of the chronological timeline, replaced with a Pinterest and Google+ card-based interface. Each tweet is put into its own “card” and is resized dynamically. Tweets with photos and videos are displayed more prominently, with full sized photos appearing in the redesigned timeline. Each card features quick options to reply, retweet, favorite, or delete.

It’s not surprising that Twitter is trying radical things to bring new users to its social network. Twitter released its quarterly results last week, which showed a paltry 3.8% increase in the number of users of the service.

Twitter is known to test new layouts and features by introducing them to random users so there’s no confirmation if this redesign is finalized. Does your Twitter profile feature the redesign? Let us know in the comments.
