Developer SongHi hopes to spark creativity in schools with its music creation apps. I got a chance to meet with SongHi during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco to check out the company’s upcoming apps.

The company plans on bringing music creation to the classroom with its studio tool. At the moment, it’s only available on the web but there are plans to bring it to more platforms and to expand its capabilities. It works like a simplified version of Apple’s GarageBand but with more instruments.

Musicians will be able to share their creations on various social networks like Facebook. The company is even looking into publishing music to help musicians sell their music.

SongHi has enlisted the help of Finnish popstar Robin to promote its music creation tool. If you’re not familiar with Robin, he’s basically the Justin Bieber of Finland. If you don’t believe me, check out the video below. The resemblance is uncanny.

SongHi is launching a music creation competition called “BoomBox” in over 2,000 Finnish schools this spring. Prizes for competition range from various band instruments to a private concert with Robin.

“Our goal is to facilitate an environment where creating and discovering music is done in a fluid and natural manner,” said SongHi CEO, Jussi Aronen.

The Ripple Audio Engine is at the core of SongHi’s apps. The engine was developed from the ground up to scale to whatever device you’re using. For example, SongHi’s mobile game, Melody Match, will use a different audio mixes for headphones and onboard speakers.

SongHi Melody Match game

Melody Match is a simple puzzle game where you match same-colored monsters to pull off combos. You have a limited number of turns to fill up a meter. Progress by chaining the longest possible combos. The gameplay isn’t new but Melody Match really serves as a demonstration of the SongHi’s Ripple Audio engine.

The BoomBox competition will begin in Finland in a couple of weeks. Melody Match will launch some time in Q2 2014 in the App Store.
