Skype for Android users will be happy to know that the battery drain issue has been fixed. Today, Skype released Skype 4.7 for Android to stop the app from draining a device’s battery while in the background.

The fix took seven months to complete. Skype promised to look into the issue back in July and has finally delivered.

However, the fix has a caveat: notifications for group chats have been temporarily disabled. Skype says this was necessary to achieve “these amazing battery savings,” but promises to bring the feature back. For those who can’t live without group chat notifications, go to Settings > Notifications > and check “Sync group messages in the background.”

The update is available now in the Play Store. The update will roll out to Kindle Fire tablets later this month.
