According to business site Globes, Google is on the verge of buying Waze, the social traffic and navigation app. This comes after months of rumors surrounding possible deals with Facebook and also Apple. This could make Google Maps even better with improved traffic data for better navigation.

Waze crowd-sources traffic and accident data from its users. It can warn you where traffic is heavy, where an accident has happened, and even where a policeman has been spotted. If your friends use Waze, you can check out where they are – so if you’re all going to the same place, you can check each-other’s routes and locations, and can easily see if everyone will be on time.

With Google’s recent focus on the social aspect of their services, its easy to see how Waze’s technology would fit. Google Maps is already arguably the best map app out there, and its community of users have filled it full of useful information on restaurants, shops and so on. Adding Waze’s real-time social information could be great news, and put it another step ahead of Apple and Bing Maps.
