Apple is rumored to be discussing a streaming music service like Spotify or Google Play, after seeing a decline in iTunes music downloads. There are also rumors that iTunes could finally see a release for Android.

Apple launched iTunes Radio last year, but it’s a limited service like Pandora that doesn’t give you full control over what you listen too. Sources talking to Billboard say Apple is looking at a more expansive app that would allow unlimited streaming of the full iTunes library, much like Spotify. This is likely to be a separate app, so iTunes Radio could be expanded and made into a standalone service.

Another option being discussed is bringing iTunes to Android. While Google’s Play is available for iOS, Apple has never released iTunes on another mobile platform. This is somewhat surprising, as it’s been very successful on Windows PCs and apparently accounts for 40% of U.S. music download revenues.

In another attempt to improve the iTunes Store, Apple is asking labels to clean up their catalogs, so when people search for a song, artist or album, they find what they want. At the moment, many seraches give users unwanted results, like multiple greatest hits albums, or repeated single releases.
