Following the soft launch in Australia and New Zealand, our lead mobile editor James Thornton took a look at Angry Birds Epic, and you can read our review here. The game may change a little by the time it gets a worldwide launch, as a soft launch is designed to give developers a way to get feedback on the game.

Angry Birds Epic is a fantasy medieval role playing game, an in typical Rovio style, it boils the genre down to its essentials. Traditionally one of the most complex and hard to get into genres, Rovio’s foray into RPGs is an easy to pick up and play game. It eschews the usual exploration found in role playing games, instead opting for a world map with defined routes featuring a series of turn-based battles.

As you’ll see in the review, Angry Bird’s Epic is fun to play, but hasn’t really delivered in terms of story. Many RPGs are tough, but the story keeps you engrossed and ready to take on difficult challenges, but Angry Birds Epic is much more accessible, and the story is not very involving. Apart from that, the game is well produced, and lives up to the quality we expect from Rovio.

Check out the Angry Birds Epic review here. It’s currently only available on iOS, but is expected to be released on Android soon.
