Professional Skills can be added to your Facebook page

Facebook is stepping into LinkedIn‘s territory with its latest feature. You can now add professional skills to your About page, and in a sign Facebook wants to make this something employers can search for, the default privacy setting is ‘Public’.

Clicking ‘Edit’ on the work and education section, and you’ll see a new field where you can add your professional skills. Each of your skills will link to a Facebook page, so if you type ‘engineering’ you’ll profile will link to that page. It’s a slightly odd arrangement, as they are not necessarily pages you like. Speaking to TheNextWeb, a spokesperson said Facebook was currently testing this feature, so not all users will have it yet, and how it works may change.

Professional Skills can be added to your Facebook page

Having professional skills listed and available publicly on Facebook would make the social network a potentially formidable resource for employers, and make it easier to find people with skills similar to you. There are still big differences between LinkedIn and Facebook, of course. Facebook has a much broader scope, and doesn’t have things like endorsements. Facebook has a way to go before it becomes an online CV like LinkedIn.
