Apple is opening up its operating system to third-party keyboards for the first time with iOS 8. One keyboard you can look forward to using is PopKey, which lets you chat with friends by sending animated GIFs.
Unlike the crazy emoji messaging app that only lets you reply with emojis, PopKey still works like a normal keyboard but you can pull up animated GIFs at the bottom. You can even upload your own GIFs to send to friends.
GIFs are categorized by featured, trending and different categories like Giphy. The best part of PopKey is that GIFs animate inline with your chat instead of sending a link your friend has to tap.
PopKey isn’t out yet, but you can sign up to be alerted when it launches. I expect the keyboard to be launching with iOS 8 on Wednesday. If you want a more traditional keyboard experience, you can look forward to SwiftKey for iPhone and iPad.
