Sony announced it will end support for PlayStation Mobile for Android for newer versions of Android. The end of support for PlayStation Mobile on Android is directed at Android 4.4.3 and higher. Any device that will run the upcoming Android L will not have any access to the PlayStation Mobile store either.
Android 4.2.2 devices will still be able to use PlayStation Mobile.
PlayStation Mobile was an attempt for Sony to bridge the PlayStation Vita and Android devices. The main weakness of PlayStation Mobile for Android was the small number of PlayStation Certified Devices that could support the service.
These devices included Sony’s Xperia line, Sharp’s AQUOS, and a selection of HTC devices, ignoring the massive install base of Samsung and Google Nexus devices.
According to Sony, the company will focus on PlayStation Vita TV and PlayStation Vita for the future. Strangely enough, the PlayStation Mobile app doesn’t exist on Google Play and has to be side-loaded with an APK.
