We’re at Gamescom 2012 in Cologne all week, and there are a host of games we’re looking forward to seeing. There will be something for all tastes, from the biggest blockbusters to smaller indie titles like Cactus’s Hotline Miami.

We’ll get to try FIFA 13, see the American revolution in Assassin’s Creed III, and find out if Burnout developers Critereon have worked their magic again with the latest Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

FIFA 13

We’ve all played the PES 2013 demo, so we’re eager to see if FIFA 13 can keep a step ahead in the soccer wars. Last year we saw the Impact Engine introduced, which really changed the way the game felt, but as many YouTube videos show, it can have some hilarious side effects which we’re hoping have been ironed out in this year’s release.

Check out James’s preview of FIFA 13 , and stay tuned for a hands-on preview later this week.

Assassin’s Creed III

Assassin’s Creed III promises to be the biggest shake up in the series to date, and not only with the American Revolution setting. You’ll play a half-English, half-Native American called Connor Kenway, and it’s rumored that the long suffering Desmond’s story will finally come to an end too.

The combat should be much improved in AC III, and there will be new activities such as hunting to try out. We’ll have a chance to find out more during Gamescom 2012.

Need for Speed Most Wanted

Since Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, the venerable franchise had become much more exciting for racing fans. Last year’s The Run was a disappointment though, so we’re really happy to see Criterion back at the helm for Need for Speed Most Wanted.

What we’ve seen so far looks like a mix of the cops and chases action, and Criterion’s open world Burnout Paradise. While some fans are missing the Burnout games, the Need for Speed name brings with it real car brands, and Hot Pursuit is the best arcade racer I’ve played in recent years, so Most Wanted should be something really special.

Hitman: Absolution

After a six year hiatus, Agent 47 is back to give us the fifth installment of the murderous action game. Hitman: Absolution has already caused controversy with an extremely violent and arguably sexist trailer, and it seems the game will not pull any punches when it comes to blood and gore.

A new ‘Instinct Mode’ has also caused consternation among die-hard Hitman fans worried that Absolution will be too easy. We’ll sit down to see whether Hitman has kept its hardcore edge, or become another victim of gamer hand-holding.

Farming Simulator 2013

It may not grab headlines, but Astragon’s Farming Simulator series has quietly built legions fans eager for a slice of country life on their PCs. So what’s new in Farming Simulator 2013? Has the business of plowing fields changed much?

This year sees the title released on iOS, and soon for Android and Windows phone, so sim fans can get their fix on the go. We’re going to sit down with the developers and find out what we can expect in the coming months from them.

What are you looking forward to at this year’s Gamescom?
