A survey of American iOS users has found 85% haven’t used Siri before. Of those who have used Siri, over 40% say Apple exaggerated how good the voice recognition technology is.

The survey was designed to how popular voice recognition technology has become now it’s mainstream. The author, Intelligent Voice, was surprised to find that so few people have used Siri, and that a significant proportion were unhappy with it.

Only 15% of iOS 7 users have tried Siri

Only 12% thought Siri was ‘extremely accurate’, although 43% said it was ‘quite accurate.’ Almost 30% found Siri ‘hit and miss’. The authors note that voice recognition technology is often sold as if it is ‘magic’, while it’s still very much a developing technology. They believe the voice recognition should be more honest and not give users unrealistic expectations.

Siri was first introduced to iOS in October 2011, and while it has improved since then, it has been subject to a fair amount of controversy. In 2012 a group of lawyers tried to sue Apple for misrepresenting Siri’s capabilities in commercials, but the case was dismissed.

A straw poll of our news team today found that none of our iPhone users use Siri, except to ask it silly questions.

Do you use Siri, or Android’s voice commands?
