Microsoft is hard at work on a new version of Office for Mac. Thorsten Hübschen, leader of the German Office division, confirmed the development the new version to Macworld. Individual development teams have been created for each program in the Office for Mac suite. Hübschen also hinted that Office for iOS and Android were in the works.

It’s been four years since the release of the latest version of Office for Mac. Development on Office for Mac has been stagnant for years, only releasing a few critical patches for Office for Mac 2011.

Hübschen says there will be more news regarding Office for Mac in the second quarter of this year. A Microsoft spokesperson speaking to Macworld also confirmed the existence of a new version of Office for Mac. “The team is hard at work on the next version of Office for Mac. While I don’t have details to share on timing, when it’s available, Office 365 subscribers will automatically get the next Office for Mac at no additional cost.”
