According to a leaked Microsoft road-map document, Office won’t be ready for iOS until fall 2014. Previously, it was hoped the mobile/touch edition of Microsoft Office would be released this spring.

The document was uncovered by ZDNet, and also suggests that a new version of Office for Windows Phone is due in April as well as a Windows RT version of Outlook also in fall.

There are no details about what the mobile Office suite will include. It’s fairly certain that it will be limited compared to the desktop version, but exactly how limited is unknown.

Fall 2014 is a long time to wait, and it gives consumers plenty of time to find alternatives like Google Drive and different ways of working with touch screen devices. It may be that by the time Office for iOS is released, far fewer people will want it.
