Last week’s 12.01 update for iTunes saw a new look introduced, but a couple design changes have annoyed some users. The bold red logo is one obvious change, but in the app itself, it’s the apparent removal of the sidebar that’s most affecting people.
Curiously, the sidebar hasn’t really disappeared. If you click on Playlists, at the top of iTunes, the sidebar reappears. From there, you can click Music, and then view your library, much like before. The red logo is probably part of the integration of iOS and OS X – the new color brings iTunes in line with iOS’s Music app, which also has a red logo.
Apple has been known to undo unpopular decisions. The controversy over the removal of Camera Roll in iOS 8 resulted in the company bringing back the feature back, which will appear in the upcoming iOS 8.1 update. The sidebar could conceivably go the same way.
