The GSMA announced the winners of this year’s Global Mobile Awards at MWC 2014. Among the winners are many apps around business and telecommunications, but there were also a few more interesting and innovative apps in the mix.
The winner of the Best Entertainment App, which includes gaming, music, sports, and video apps, was Device 6. The app is an unusual combination of literature and games, thrown into a surrealist thriller setting. Device 6 is currently only available for iOS.
The judge’s choice for Best Overall Mobile App went to CityMapper. This all-encompassing transport app houses a vault of transit information to make travelling around some of the world’s largest metro areas really simple. It includes real-time subway, bus, train and traffic data, as well as weather conditions, travel prices, and routing. While the app is great, it’s only currently available to lucky commuters in London, Paris, New York and Berlin. CityMapper is available for both iOS and Android.

The award for Most Innovative Mobile App went to CamMe. It’s quite a simple concept, but pretty relevant, especially for selfie-lovers: it lets you take pictures with your device using gestures, without having to physically touch your smartphone or tablet. CamMe is available for iOS.
