play xbla bannerMicrosoft’s video game production division, Microsoft Studios, released their latest project, the Play gaming service. Not to be confused with Google’s Play store, Microsoft Play is a gaming platform where Xbox and Windows 8/RT users can buy and play games on multiple devices. There’s no need to buy a single game for multiple devices like your Xbox and laptop.

This is similar to what Steam already has to offer. You can buy a game for PC and play it on your Mac as well (if it’s supported). Steam adds cloud syncing for its games so you can pick up where you left off on different computers. Microsoft Studios does not have this functionality listed on its site.

At launch for the service there are 15 titles highlighted available. Here’s what they are:

  • 4 Elements: Special Edition
  • Adera
  • Gunstringer: Dead Man Running
  • Hydro Thunder Hurricane
  • Ilomilo+
  • Microsoft Mahjong
  • Microsoft Minesweeper
  • Microsoft Solitaire Collection
  • Pinball FX2
  • Reckless Racing Ultimate
  • Rocket Riot 3D
  • Skulls of the Shogun (to be released on Jan. 30)
  • Taptiles
  • Toy Soldiers (not playable on Windows RT devices)
  • Wordament
