Windows XP is reaching the end of its life and Microsoft is trying to help users upgrade to a modern version of Windows. Today, the company announced that it will be offering Windows XP users PCmover Express software for free.
PCmover Express allows users to move their files from Windows XP to a new computer running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. Microsoft partnered with Laplink, the developer of PCmover Express, to offer the program for free. Laplink is also offering a discount on its PCmover Professional for XP users who want to transfer their apps over as well.
The app will copy your files, music, videos, email, user profiles, and settings over to your new Windows machine. Users can check off what they want and do not want to transfer over. The app will work over your home network to make the transfer painless.
Microsoft will begin warning Windows XP users of the April 8th End of Support date starting next week. This warning will be part of the Windows Update notifications.
The free PCmover Express app will be available “later this week” at WindowsXP.com in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. Support for Korean, Chinese, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese will be available later in March.
