Linkee, the latest board game to sweep the UK, has launched a mobile app for Android and iOS. The London-based trio behind the game turned down an offer on the BBC’s Dragon’s Den earlier this year, but not before getting some helpful advice: make an app! And that’s exactly what they did.

The simple concept behind the game, to find the link between the answers to four random questions, made translating Linkee into a mobile app a no-brainer. The app was developed by a young tech entrepreneur who was watching Dragon’s Den the night Linkee was featured. “I thought the other Dragons were crazy not to invest in Linkee… I leapt at the opportunity to work with [the Linkee team],” says 24-year old developer Ed Moyse.

While the traditional version is meant to be played in groups, the mobile app offers a single-player game with four questions and a pool of letters at the bottom of the screen that will make up the ‘Linkee’. If you don’t know the answer to one of the questions, you can swipe left to get a hint and figure out the link. You get coins for correct answers, which can be used for in app purchases.

Users are able to submit their own Linkee (ie. questions) via the app, demonstrating yet another creative use of mobile crowdsourcing, which is becoming a popular way to deliver mobile products or services ranging from traffic, to weather, to music. The current versions has 240 questions, but will be updated as the crowd-sourced suggestions come in.

“A key element of Linkee is that we invite people to become part of our online community and help write questions. People from all over the world have already been participating, and we think Linkee is a better game as a result,” says Dean Tempest, one of Linkee’s co-founders.

You only have to head to a local weekly pub quiz to recognize how popular quiz games are with Brits, and while Linkee has infiltrated pubs across London, a mobile app seems like the perfect way to help Brits quench their thirst for quiz games!
