Stickers have been a huge success for LINE, and from April they are opening the sticker market to anyone who wants to sell them. Revenue will be split 50/50 between LINE and the designers.
The LINE Creators Market will open in Spring, and will allow anyone to make original stickers for the app, which will be sold for JPY 100 each. We don’t know yet whether the feature will immediately be available outside Japan. All you will need to do to use the Creators Market is sign up for a LINE account and then submit your stickers.
It won’t be a free for all. LINE will screen all submissions before they are added to the store, so they should avoid copyright infringements and offensive or unsuitable drawings. Until now, Stickers were either created by LINE or official partners, and its not clear how LINE will prioritize those stickers against user created efforts in the LINE Web Store.
LINE has also announce plans to launch a parallel service allowing calls to cellphones and landlines, like Microsoft’s Skype. It will be available in US, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the Philippines and Thailand first.
