The popular free Office alternative for Windows, LibreOffice has been updated to version 4.2. This update’s biggest improvement is better support for Microsoft Office OpenXML format, including documents with “Track Changes On”.
Better support for Microsoft’s OpenXML formats – .docx, .xlsx y .pptx – means LibreOffice users will have less headaches opening and editing those documents. You’ll also get a new start screen, showing you recently opened documents, and it still allows you to drag and drop files onto it to open them.
LibreOffice is derived from OpenOffice, the now discontinued free open source Windows and Mac office suite. It’s designed as an alternative to Microsoft Office, and each iteration gets it closer to that aim. It has 6 applications, Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Math and Base: all alternatives to Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, and Access.
Version 4.2 brings major performance enhancements to Calc, as it’s been through a major code refactoring, making it more efficient. It also integrates better with Windows 7 and 8.
