iwork for icloudiWork has been around since 2005 but it never really took off. Microsoft’s Office suite still dominates and Google’s cloud-based office suite, Google Drive, is beginning to become massively popular. Apple has some catching up to do and that’s why they’re releasing iWork for iCloud. iWork finally heads to the cloud in a developers-only beta. A public beta should be released some time this year.

iWork for iCloud includes programs like Numbers, Keynote, and pages, which all offer real-time editing of documents and works just like the Mac and iOS versions. Apple demonstrated that iWork for iCloud would work from most modern browsers by editing documents on a Windows 8 machine. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer, Chrome, and of course, Safari. It’s strange that Firefox isn’t listed as a supported browser, though Apple did take a jab at the browser for its high power consumption during the WWDC keynote.
