The first update of iOS 8 was fraught with bricked iPhones but Apple quickly fixed the problematic update. Apple continues to fix performance issues with the upcoming iOS 8.1.1 update.

The first test build of iOS 8.1.1 was sent to developers yesterday so the update should be coming soon. In the update’s release notes, Apple specifically states that the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 will be getting performance fixes.

When iOS 8 was released, I was surprised to learn that Apple was providing such old devices with the operating system. I’ve heard from several people that the update slowed down their older iPhone or iPad dramatically with slow opening apps, jerky animations and lag in general. Hopefully iOS 8.1.1 will remedy these performance woes so that users won’t have to downgrade back to iOS 7.
