We already knew that Instagram ads were coming but we didn’t know how soon they would begin appearing. Today Instagram detailed how in-feed ads would look and work, preparing users with a sponsored ad from the company before rolling out actual advertisements.
The test ad will begin showing up in the feeds of Instagram users in the US “in the coming week.” The ad looks like any other photo in your feed except for a “Sponsored” label to the top right where a time stamp would normally be.
“We want ads to be creative and engaging, so we’re staring with just a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community,” writes Instagram. Companies like Macy’s, Ben & Jerry’s, Burberry, and Michael Kors all have ads ready for Instagram. If you see an ad you don’t like and never want to see again, you can tap the menu button (three dots) and provide feedback about why you don’t like the ad.
